When spending a day in Bruges, you will undoubtedly want to see all that there is to see. Though a day is not nearly enough time to accomplish this goal, you can get a good sense of what Bruges is all about in a few hours. The city itself is designed in a way that most of the top attractions are bundled together, so a smart visitor can experience a lot without expending too much energy. The following five activities will suit you well during your Bruges day trip.
Relax in the Market Square
Spend some time in the center of Bruges. Market Square recalls the Medieval time, when commerce took place right in the center of the city. While there, you can view the Belfry and Cloth Hall, both of which stand as two of the city's most impressive architectural achievements. Additionally, Market Square is home to street-side shops, as well as a number of small cafes and restaurants.
Visit a brewery
If there are beer lovers in your midst, then they know all too well about the history of Belgian beer. Bruges is home to a number of awesome breweries, so you could spend some time taking in those scenes. The Brewery de Halve Maan is one of the world's most renowned spots for beer making and it offers individual tours. You may also want to check out the Brewery de Gouden Boom, which is the home of the famed Brugs Tarwieber. The breweries offer samples as a part of the tour, which really adds something extra to the tour.
Take a tour
There are a number of companies that offer tours, and this is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the history of the city. Bruges has a long and pronounced history, so these tours show off the various facets of it, including World War II sites and nearby battle sites. These tours can do done either by boat, walkiing, bus or by bike for those travelers who want to be a bit more active.
Hot air balloon rides
One of the best ways to see the city is from above. While in Bruges, you could spend the afternoon on a hot air balloon ride. This will allow you to experience breathtaking views while enjoying some personal time.
Sample some chocolate
Bruges is famous for it's chocolate shops - they're everywhere! Have a wander round and see artisan chocolates being hand made. And of course pick up a few for your friends back home!
